FRINGE 16.11>9.12

Up-and-coming talent at young Leuven arts trail Fringe

Thursday, November 16 marks the start of Fringe, an arts trail as part of the New Horizons | Dieric Bouts Festival in Leuven. Fringe places unique performance art and visual work by up-and-coming talent in the spotlight, along with international work by young creators.

At some dozen venues, Fringe presents exciting solo presentations, one-of-a-kind group exhibitions and cutting-edge performances. If you want to be sure to experience almost all of these events, visit Leuven for the opening night. The organisers mapped out an itinerary where you will hardly miss a thing: from performances by Domingo Collective and Agnès Geoffray to the party at Playground Festival in STUK. The opening night starts at 6.30 pm and is free and open to everyone.

Groundbreaking underground work

Fringe aims to offer the work of promising artists and voices from under the radar a public forum within the broader framework of Leuven's city festivals. Coordinators Stéfanie Lambrechts, City of Leuven, and Nanou Catry, KU[N]ST Leuven: "Fringe is an utmost important network and cultural project for Leuven. Investing in new artistic talent is what this city is strong at. Giving space to new voices, with Dieric Bouts as guide from the past, fits perfectly within the programme of New Horizons |Dieric Bouts Festival. We are particularly proud that since the first edition, more than ten organisations have come together for this festival. This yields a more than interesting result with work from makers such as Elias Cafmeyer - commissioned by Veduta - and Sarah Lauwers to international artists and collectives such as Kenzo Tokuoka (Japan/France), Francisco Correia (Portugal) and Domingo Collective (Switzerland)."

Fringe came to be in 2021 during KNAL! - the previous city festival. The artistic network has expanded considerably for this second edition with partners such as CIRKLABO, Veduta, Queer Leuven, STUK and M Leuven (Playground Festival). The programme is thus more ambitious and multifaceted than ever.

Fringe is a collab hosted by BAC ART LAB KU Leuven, Bamm!, Cas-co, CIRKLABO, Expo Leuven, KU[N]ST Leuven, LUCA School of Arts, mijnleuven, Queer Leuven, City of Leuven, STUK, Veduta and Werktank, and is made possible thanks to the support of KU[N]ST Leuven, City of Leuven, Flemish Community and Nationale Loterij.

The various exhibits run from Thursday, November 16 through Saturday, December 9, and are free to visit every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 1 pm to 6 pm. Click here for the full programme of Fringe.
